VITO’s research agenda tackles the major societal challenges we are facing today. The VITO Remote Sensing department develops and operates earth observation systems for public and industry projects on the topics of Land Use, Agriculture, Water & Coast, Security and Infrastructure. The focus within agricultural projects is mostly on crop monitoring, yield forecasting and disease monitoring. The department currently has a team of about 90 employees and is active in more than 115 countries over the world.
From monitoring for diseases to improving yields and even gauging the changes in seasons, the agricultural sector requires a close eye on every possible level. For that very reason, VITO Remote Sensing focuses on a multi-scale approach. By integrating field observations and close range measurements with UAV and satellite images into comprehensive information products, we deliver powerful insights for a wide range of parties.
